If you have stone on any portion of your home exterior, or if you have stone surrounding your fireplace, there are several tips towards ensuring it looks great for years.

Durable and Easy to Maintain

Manufactured stone is generally durable and easy to maintain, which is one of the reasons homeowners opt to buy decorative stone. But you should still make it a habit to inspect it once or twice a year. Include inspecting your stone into your routine when you check windows, gutters, and other exterior items on your home.

Maintenance Tips

If you do find any gaps, you can perform easy repointing work to fill in any cracks or crevices on your stone. Vinyl infused driveway patching mortar mixed with grout coloring (to match your grout) is one common way to fill any cracks. But it’s recommended to check with the installer or manufacturer for the best materials to use.

Cleaning Your Exterior Stone

Lastly, you may need to clean your exterior stone, especially when they are susceptible to things like cleaning chemicals. Warm water, dish soap, and a dash of vinegar can be a great cleaning solution if your stone is cultured or concrete. It is recommended that you not use wire brushes (soft bristle only) or high-powered pressure washers when cleaning your stone.

With these maintenance tips, you can keep your stone veneer and other decorative stone looking great!
