Avoiding Supply Chain Disruptions

Supply chain disruption can impact the building industry in frustrating ways that lead to project delays and disappointed customers. Material suppliers, production labor, transportation and more all impact the chain of actions that end with delivery to a customer. Events like natural disasters – even localized power outages in other states or countries – can create ripple effect slowdowns throughout a supply chain. Disruption from global pandemics could mean temporarily shutting down production (as we’ve experienced firsthand in the past year).

While the COVID-19 pandemic slowed production, it also skyrocketed the demand for home improvement materials. The combination led to a depleted supply chain with extensive wait times and cost inflation across the industry. Casa di Sassi proactively took matters into our own hands to alleviate some of the frustration and keep our customers’ projects moving forward. See how the pandemic-led industry growth prompted us to expand our own production and avoid supply chain disruptions today and for years to come.

PRODUCTS MADE IN AMERICA

When companies rely on products or even small components manufactured and shipped from other countries, they face a bevy of supply-chain related challenges. Customs processing and global transportation bottlenecks create extra lead time and delay the customer projects. While foreign suppliers can sometimes offer a lower price point, the quality of the product itself also drops.

American-made products, on the other hand, offer shorter lead times and a more controlled fulfillment schedule so customers can avoid surprises or delays. Quality control and reliable workmanship is another benefit of purchasing American-made products. Casa di Sassi not only manufactures our stone veneer profiles and accessories in America, we also source raw materials for these products from American companies. This helps us avoid inefficiencies in our own supply chain and keep customer orders on schedule.

EXPANDING TO MEET DEMAND

Our company remains committed to making products available in a timely manner. Instead of bumping back that goal to match the new industry standard of longer lead times, we’ve implemented several changes within the business that will help expand the operation to meet demand:

  1. Mold production. We met our goal of doubling production for molds by mid-May. Increased molds meant increased pouring capacity and order fulfillment.
  2. Extra help. We’ve worked long hours putting these new molds to good use, but we’re also hiring additional employees to meet ongoing demand.
  3. Storage capacity. With a deadline of August 31, 2021, we plan to double our storage capacity with a second location covering 20 acres. This expansion, which is near our existing showroom and production facility, gives us room to store inventory and acts as a buffer to avoid customer delivery delays if any of our suppliers experience shortages.

This growth and expansion is essential for staying on top of product demand and preventing supply chain disruption for customers.

DEDICATED EMPLOYEES

A dedicated team also plays a pivotal role in providing a consistent supply chain. A company can’t manufacture a reputable product – in a timely manner – without reputable people. As a family-owned company, Casa di Sassi was built on the timeless values of integrity, honesty, and quality. Even during this season of expansion with ramped up production, we still make it a priority to hire employees that embody these core values.

Our stone products are designed to resemble the classic look of European style stone from long ago, and we believe this hiring approach will cultivate dedicated employees for the long term.
